Carlo Bartoli is a cardiac surgeon–scientist whose work focuses on the surgical management of congenital heart disease, the development and testing of artificial circulation devices, and the biology and pathophysiology underlying device‑related bleeding, thrombosis, and abnormal angiogenesis in children with single‑ventricle physiology, including von Willebrand factor biology and targeted drug discovery. He completed his education at Cornell University, Harvard University, and the University of Louisville School of Medicine through a combined MD/PhD pathway, followed by integrated cardiothoracic surgery training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Bartoli leads an internationally recognized, NIH‑funded translational biophysics laboratory supported by federal agencies, foundations, and industry, with a mission to advance cardiovascular medicine and train future physician‑scientists. He has received numerous national and international honors, serves on multiple society and industry advisory boards, has published more than 70 peer‑reviewed articles, and has delivered over 70 invited lectures worldwide.
